Veda Bhavana, Varanasi (Kashi)

Even though Kashi city was renowned for the study of Vedic scriptures, in the past 50 years, the government has taken control of all Gurukulas and imposed its curriculum. Due to this, traditional Vedic learning that used to take place in Kashi has thus been pushed to the brink of extinction. Consequently, with the aim of producing eminent Vedic scholars who are well versed in Vedadhyayanam, Shadanga, Shrauta, Prayoga and Dharmashastra, Kudali Sringeri Mahasamsthanam has initiated the Veda Bhavana near the Manikarnika Ghat in Kashi.

Currently, there are 20 students and three teachers in the Veda Bhavana. Both the accommodation and education for the students here are entirely free. In this Gurukula, everyone communicates only in the Sanskrit language. In addition to Vedic studies, the students also engage in practical activities like daily Agnihotra and performance of Shrauta Yajnas, among others.
